Launceston, the ancient capital and gateway to Cornwall is on the A30 in the agricultural heart of the Westcountry. It is a medieval market town and is one mile from the Devon and Cornwall border.
It is an area of considerable beauty and charm with easy access to both the North and South Coasts as well as to the cities of Exeter, Plymouth and Truro.
Launceston dates back to Celtic times and is the only walled town in Cornwall. It is steeped in history being dominated by its Castle built by Brian de Bretagne the first Norman Earl of Cornwall in the 11th Century.
The Launceston Methodist Circuit has 13 churches with a membership of around 450 people who worship and enjoy fellowship as Christians together. The churches have a great tradition from the past and lie at the heart of the town, villages and hamlets.
The Bridge Church is a new vibrant church in Launceston on the Pennygillam estate with modern contemporary music and styles of worship and outreach for young families.
As well as enjoying local history, historians and tourists interested in the life and mission of John Wesley can visit the Wesley Cottage at Trewint. The cottage became a place of rest and mission for Wesley and his colleagues in 1743.
