St. Giles Methodist Church News
On Sunday 7th April 2013 the members of St, Giles Methodist Church were joined by their friends from neighbouring West Devon chapels and the local church to celebrate their Chapel Anniversary. It marked a crossroad in the life of the chapel because their chapel building has been sold, and so the service was held in St. Giles village hall where they now worship every Sunday morning.
The village hall is a warm and comfortable building situated at the heart of the Village community and people were welcomed enthusiastically at the door by David Lancaster.
The Chairman of the Cornwall District, Revd Steven Wild, conducted the service in the morning assisted by Revd Cathy Arscott. The hymns were sung with enthusiasm to music - led by Shirley Jordon on keyboard, Sheila Lashmar on euphonium and Frank Arscott on trumpet. It was a very happy occasion in which we gave thanks for all that God has already done and in which we looked forward to what God had prepared for us in the years to come.
Tea and coffee was served after the service and this gave everyone a chance to enjoy fellowship together afterwards. In the evening there were more celebrations when the Burraton Male Voice Choir came to give a concert. This was a very uplifting time with the village hall packed and the room filled with the sound of a very good male voice choir singing in harmony. A piano solo was played by Mr Phil Taylor and there were solos sung by Mrs D. Irving. The choir was conducted by Mr Phil Taylor. The evening ended with a wonderful supper prepared by the ladies of St. Giles Methodist Church, and everyone went home after wards feeling they had enjoyed a good day!
